Debra A. Susie, Ph.D.
Executive Director
Debra A. Susie, Ph.D., has been with Florida Impact since 1986. She grew up in Opa-locka (a neighborhood of greater Miami) and earned her doctorate at Florida State University. Debra authored In the Way of Our Grandmothers (University of Georgia Press), an historical treatment of traditional midwives in Florida and recognized by the Florida Historical Society as an outstanding book on Florida history. Debra produced a documentary by the same name. Her first project with Florida Impact was conducting the Florida component of the Community Childhood Hunger Identification Project—part of the nation's first scientific study on hunger in America.

Ebony Faith Yarbrough
Child Nutrition Coordinator
Ebony Faith Yarbrough has been with Florida Impact since 2001. She is originally from Dale City, Virginia and has earned a Bachelor of Arts in Spanish from Florida A & M University. She has spent a couple of her summers teaching theatre skills to community youth at the Irene C. Edmonds Youth Theatre Camp and produced other productions in Tallahassee and in the Dominican Republic with a youth theatre group near Santo Domingo. Fluent in Spanish, Ebony staffed the Food Stamp Help-line, helping thousands of Floridians apply for food assistance benefits. She now works with rural communities to open and promote summer nutrition sites where children have previously had little or no access to these resources when school is out.

Fely Curva
Lobbyist
Fely Curva has worked with Florida Impact since 2000 through her firm Curva & Associates. She was born and raised in the Philippines (Manila). Fely received her doctorate at Florida State University and has conducted research and evaluation activities in the field of prevention and school-based health education programs for the past 10 years. Her firm has served as lead evaluators for several statewide health-education programs, including the Artful Truth-Healthy Propaganda Arts Project, developed at Florida International University. Fely has served as a Legislative Analyst for the Florida House of Representatives and as a Senior Analyst for the Florida Pepper Commission on Aging and the Florida Department of Health & Rehabilitative Services. She serves as Florida Impact's registered lobbyist during the annual Florida legislative session.

Shannon Nash
Program Assistant
Shannon Nash has been with Florida Impact since 2007. She has earned her Bachelor's Degree from Florida State University and is continuing her education at Florida Coastal School of Law in Jacksonville. She volunteers her time by visiting with residents of local nursing homes and reading with children at a low-income preschool. Shannon has spent a couple of her summers the country of Honduras where she helped rebuild the roof on a school dormitory, assisted in the repairs of an elderly couple's home, and passed out toys and hygiene items at an orphanage.

Adriana Arellano
Florida Impact Intern
Adriana Arellano is interning for Florida Impact through the summer 2009. She is currently working on her master’s degree in Social Work with a concentration in Social Policy Administration at Florida State University. She came to the United States as a Fulbright Foreign Student Scholar from Ecuador. Her experience includes: conducting case management for the Family Assistance Program at Catholic Charities of Northwest Florida, and working as a Research Assistant for the College of Social Work in projects focused on parenting practices around Florida, and Leadership Councils developed around issues affecting older adults in Florida. Adriana is interested in community organizing and poverty alleviation. She plans to return to Ecuador and work on projects that organize and provide assistance to indigenous communities.
